Greater Hartford Kappa League
The Hartford Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. operates all youth programming under the guidelines of our National Guide Right Service Program. The Saint Louis Alumni Chapter created this program in 1922. It was designed with the purpose of assisting youth with the selection and pursuit of careers consistent with the Fraternity’s fundamental purpose of Achievement.
The Hartford Alumni Chapter sponsors an extremely active Guide Right program that consists of educational, social, tutorial, and mentoring activities for youth in the Greater Hartford area. Our program mission statement is:
“To develop youth leadership, character, and responsibility within the Greater Hartford Area”

Every child needs a “Champion”, is an outstanding TED Talk that features an Educator by the name of Rita Pierson. In this TED Talk, Ms. Pierson highlights the fact that our young children of color are capable of much and just need someone to support them. I have been an advocate for youth in the Greater Hartford area for over 15 years. Throughout the years there have not been many male youth leadership programs. This area is saturated with sports programs but there has been a tremendous need to provide direct leadership training specifically for young men. Many years ago, while working with a group of young men at my church, I heard about a program where students would be exposed to different fields and take trips to these places. They would even have overnight stays on college campuses. This is where I met my now Mentor Kyle Anderson. Brother Anderson developed a Male Youth Leadership Program servicing hundreds of young men in the city of Hartford. This is the programming I wanted to stay connected to. Who knew that years down the line as we stayed in contact that I would have joined his Fraternity and become the Director of a similar leadership program within it? It’s an honor to serve.

Helping young men reach their full potential.
The Greater Hartford Kappa League provides multifaceted mentoring, counseling and training programs, which assist young men of color in grades 6 through 12. Our primary focus is the development of life skills, pursuit of educational objectives, college & career exploration and community service. The GHKL serves as a vehicle to allow our students to learn about key life related topics that are not incorporated in the traditional school curriculum. The program provides students with knowledge and tools that will allow them to excel in the classroom, within their families and in their communities. The topics they learn will provide a strong foundation as they transition to young adulthood.
If you know a young man who can benefit from this program, please email greaterhartfordguideright@gmail.com
